i picked up ashley's ring this weekend. it's quite beautiful. a perfect solitaire in the middle with a couple of smaller round stones on either side. it's only about 1.25 tcw, but the cut, color, and clarity are absolutely perfect. and besides, she has a pretty small finger (a little under a 4).
we went to a childhood friend's wedding this weekend, too. it was really nice, and not too many people were there. also, it was good to go to a full-service catholic wedding, as I had never been to one before. i grew up episcopal, and my brothers had episcopal weddings, which were quite similar, but it was still nice to see a catholic one.
i'm off to bed. my review class for the texas bar exam starts tomorrow. more later . . . .

367 days out . . . .
one year from tomorrow, i'll be married.
it sounds really crazy to say, even crazy to write. in a year, i will have a wife. i'm writing this blog to keep track of my personal thoughts and opinions about the wedding-planning process and to vent about my concerns, fears, and frustrations with the engagement, the wedding planning, my future in-laws, and yes, my future wife. see, i'm a little scared right now. it's probably just the realization that i have almost exactly one year to go (i wrote 367 days because the actual wedding will be on may 17 and because next year is a leap year), but i'm starting to dwell on things. little flags are popping up that are making me wonder, "am i making the right decision"? i'm sure everyone goes through this. well, here is my solution. i will post these thoughts and questions, and i'll tell you stories -- both good and bad -- over the next year as i get ready to embark on this journey. i hope that a few of you will hang around to read the stories and make comments when you feel it is appropriate. this is like free therapy for me! i can vent all i need to and maybe get some good advice or thoughts from total strangers. sounds good to me.
now, a few details. call me brendan. my future wife's name is ashley. i'm not going to call her my fiancee, because she isn't, technically. we have plans to get married, but we are not officially engaged yet. this is because i have not yet bought her ring. i have ordered it, but i haven't yet picked it up. we even have a wedding date set, complete with a booked church, reception site, and caterer, but no ring. i will be giving it to her this summer on what will probably in her mind be the perfect day. see, her favorite number is 7, so i'm planning on presenting her with the ring on 7/7/07. i thought it would be sweet. she knows exactly when it's going to happen. we haven't talked about it, but we both know. i can tell.
anyway, i'll fill you in on more details later. right now, i'm going to go sit and have a drink, so i can ponder what the next year has in store for me. i'm sure it's going to be a fun ride. i hope some of you come along with me . . . .
